Common fault, a lot of bongo owners have the same problem including me, the gentle nudge is all thats needed to lock it upright.
Try using silicon grease/spray on the runners that sometimes works.
Lost without my Bongo.

Following the advice from someone else on the forum I solved this problem by leaving the tent sides unzipped.
I also stopped the groaning and juddering by cleaning the runners (as much as I could) with white spirit, then treating them with Wynn's Silicon Spray.
