roof wont open

Post by norman » Tue Aug 21, 2012 9:52 am

Hi
can anyone help? I can't get my electric roof on my Bongo to go up. All the right lights and beeps happen, but it doesn't budge.
My local garage had a look at it and concluded that it is a roof motor problem. I can't find a roof motor on the web... any thoughts?
thanks
Norman

I've had this problem. Where are you based? Can you think of anything that might have triggered it (storing stuff in the roof space, carrying extra loads on the roof etc) ?

Ps - should add that I opted for 2 new motors after other fixes didn't last. Not cheap, but hoping that may sort it finally. I'm now v careful about storage and roof loads.

Hi thanks for that. I don't think I've stored it badly, just not used the roof for a year or so.
I'm in Dorset. Where did you get your 2 motors from and how much did they cost?

Welcome to the madhouse :D
Put your location in your profile - somebody local may well be able to offer assistance 8)
This is not a totally rare event and is usually caused by not having the handbrake fully on, or the gearbox in P.
The switch behind the handbrake often needs cleaning in these circumstances - does the handbrake warning light come on?

John is absolutely right. There are some simple causes that need eliminating before addressing more serious possibilities. I got mind through my Bongo specialist mechanic Adrian, at Japan Direct in Bolton 0161-763-3003, but Allans in Plymouth, or Bellhill Motors in Somerset, could Probably advise, and are more local.

Worth having areas of one of my early threads, as when I bought my Bongo the roof wouldn't work, but was quite lucky with wiring it up direct to test the motors and when I put it all back together it worked fine.
