Hand Brake kit - where can I get one?

Post by agentdagnamit » Mon Aug 20, 2012 2:18 pm

I need new shoes and a hand brake kit, but my garage doesnt have anything compatible. Any one know where I can get one, or one that would do the job?

thanks

I may be wrong, but I don't think there is anything else compatible. So you will have to get genuine Mazda ones. I'm not sure what you mean by a "kit", but the full set of Handbrake Shoes is Mazda part number LCY14439Z. You should be able to obtain these from Mazda parts dept.

If you have any difficulty tracking them down, I think we have a spare set here at the Bongo Shop (but I'd have to search for them in the cardboard hell that is our storeroom.........)

Thanks.

I need the retaining pin and spring, at least that's how my garage explained it to me.

Turns out for both sides, I probably need;

4 pins
2 retaining clips
5 springs for each side

My garage has been in touch with Mazda for this info, but reckons this list of parts is excessive!

BTW - my knowledge of brakes is limited to servicing mountain bike hydraulic systems, so I'm in the dark really

Have a look through this thread (below) after all the alternator info. Handbrake shoes appear to be readily available for under £50 on ebay, so you could contact the suppliers to see if they can help with shoes & fitting kit. Do you definitely need a new kit, or can you re-use existing items?

Unless someone has dismantled your handbrake system and lost bits, or else abused it massively and broken something, it sounds odd you should need any new parts (i.e. I've never heard on here of anyone needing them) except the obvious (brake shoes, and maybe cable though again, I've never heard of anyone who has stretched theirs so much it needed replacing). Are you being given good information or duff? Handbrake cable adjustment is eezy-peezy even for a mountain-biker :lol: :lol: and brake shoes are as Simon says in the post/link above.
