EGR Valve?
Hi,
My Orange light started to flash today and the Bongo found going uphill rather a struggle thereafter.
The AA man said that he didn't have the right plug for the diagnostic but was pretty sure that it was an EGR valve problem.
Do you agree and if so is this expensive to rectify?
Kind regards

Hard to say without knowing if there is a symbol on the orange light, but I'm not aware of a EGR warning light.

Re: EGR Valve?
which bongo have you got, and what year.
Re: EGR Valve?
It's the glo-plug coil light that's flashing. It's a 2.5 diesel in a Yr 2000 Bongo. Many thanks.
Re: EGR Valve?
Anyone got any thoughts on this one?

Thanks guys,
My local garage knows someone with the correct diagnostic plug so I'll take it down there.
I took it for a run today. It stared off not flashing but then after a while it came on. When I got home the console and handbrake felt warm so maybe it's the scavenging fan, as the handbook (which I have subsequently read) suggests it may be!
Also, believe it or not, my local Mazda dealer said that he can help too...although he's going to charge me £45 just to run the diagnostic...my wallet aches already!
N.b The AA man couldn't make head nor tale of the diagnostics factsheet!
Anyway, hopefully I'll get this sorted soon...many thanks again for your help.

Re: EGR Valve?
Same symptoms as mine and same age. I've not got to the bottom of it yet, but I believe it could also be one of the many vacuum solenoids. Where abouts are you happenin'?
Cheers,
Dave

Surrey/W.Sussex Border.
It's in the garage now...will post again once the diagnostic has been run.

Re: EGR Valve?
Any news yet? I have my fingers crossed for you (and me!), as I've read some horror stories on here... Lots of positive ones too, but it's only the bad ones that stick in my mind (until I get it sorted that is). I've been a bit busy recently though.happeninboy wrote:

Re: EGR Valve?
Nope, my garage drew a blank so I'm biting the bullet and taking it to Mazda Guildford on 13th...hopefully we'll get somewhere after that!

Re: EGR Valve?
on this later type turbo it has a habit of failing on the wastegate flap, get them to check it out. it can stick causing your symptoms.
Re: EGR Valve?
I certainly will, many thanks!
Re: EGR Valve?
Hi happeninboy, mines had this a couple of times and had turned out to be a faulty air control valve.
Id be tempted to take a trip to a Bongo savvy garage (321 away, Bell Hill, ADS Bristol) to get your code read, Mazda generally cant help what with it not being a EU model.
I can recommend all of the mentioned garages (all an hour plus from me!)
Keep us posted on your findings.

Were you driving with the lights on? I thought I had a scavenge fan problem as the console would become very warm. Then I realised it only happened intermittently, which was odd, and then I realised that it was only when I had the lights on. Which is when I came to the conclusion that it was the bulb illuminating the gear-shift that was causing the heat build up!
