Rear 12V Socket

I know it is well known that the rear socket can struggle to provide the power requirement for much more than a phone charger but I was tinkering with mine ( supplied by the LB via Willinton fusebox) yesterday and thought I would share my experience.

last week I plugged in a cheapy Tesco tyre inflator and inflated four bycycle tyres from flat to 40 PSI, well tha last one got to 38 PSI and the pump stopped, I presumed it was broken or cut out on heat. yesterday I escaped from the house for an hour and tried the pump in the front socket and it worked but still wouldn't work in the back. I tried my two way adaptor in the back and the LED lit up. I pulled the socket out and made sure all the plugs were making good contact and they were.

I then tried my inverter in the front and it lit up the LED and made a healthy humming noise, in the back, nothing.

Then I got the meter out and measured the voltage at the socket 12.54 IIRC. Then I measured it with the invertor plugged in and the voltage dropped to 0.6V.

Clearly there is a fault somewhere in the circuit!

I have ordered the parts to rewire it direct to the LB via a fuse and 6mm cable as I am going to be installing some sort of compressor fridge in future. I have a marine type 12V Socket which I intend to replace the standard one with.

I am going to route the cable in convoluted sheathing through the jack compartment and under the passenger seat and up the bulkhead a s I only need to remove the side step and the rear armrest tray thingy to achieve this. The hole in the back of the toolbox area is also very well placed for squirting waxoyl at a very vulnerable part of the wheelarch.

The annoying thing is, last year I threw out what was probably a perfectly good coolbox thinking the 12V PSU in it had failed and it was probably the car wiring all the time. Doh!

One point about the Willinton kit, I know it is a short run but the tails between the Willinton and the Bongo fusebox seem a bit skinny to me?
