From my experience - double check the u-bend.

hi if there is only 2 wires going to the motor then it can only be your switch which is faulty

Sounds like you have reversed the two connections to the motor whilst testing perhaps ?

Make sure that when you fit the switch rocker and lever assembly onto the actual switch slider underneath it that the slider is in the centre (off) position. The lever must then mate with it exactly otherwise it will only slide the actual electrical part of the switch one way and not bring it back to the centre when the rocker part is released.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi, did you work out why your old switch "melted inside"?? Possibly due to a short in the door loom?
You said you checked the U bend in the loom.. (Or the V i call it.) :wink: Did you also check where the loom goes into the body/wing through the rubber grommet? I've known wires break off in there too.. :idea:

Hi, did you work out why your old switch "melted inside"??
contacts where still good but one of the plastic plungers had melted down which must have been on the up side as down still worked.it had been intermittent to get it go up
hence s/h switch purchase will check loom again
cheers all

hi if its the drivers side window then it cant be a broken wire otherwise it would not go down so it can only be your switch.did the window go up slowly when it was working? if so then this is what caused your original switch to get hot, maybe the mechanisam needs lubing or the runners need spraying with dry silicone spray

The circuit for the windows is here (1997 version);

The motors are simple DC motors, the direction they run depends on the polarity applied, the switch circuit simply reverses the connections. So if it now runs in the wrong direction either the power to the module connections have been reversed or the motor connections have been reversed.

The only other possibility that comes to mind is that they have reversed the connections between different years in/by error/mistake, which year is your vehicle ?

the window up wire in the drivers door supplies the negative for the window down in the passenger door, both wires that run from drivers door switch to the passenger door switch are 12v negative at rest if one of these wires were broke it wouldnt go down or up but he says it goes down so cant be broken wire

Which switch had burnt out and has been replaced, the Passenger or Drivers door switch ?
Does the reversal happen on both switches or only from one door if so which one?
