Green light?

Post by Observer » Thu May 17, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi, just above the rear control panel (digital) for the AC, is a small green indicator light which in my case does nothing - what is it for? I've had a look through the hand boook but it isn't mentioned. :-?

The green light should come on with the side lights & is to illiminate the controls. Uses a fairly standard bulb as used in the speedo instrument panel. You can access it either by removing whole panel, or unscrewing the grey surround for the heater controls, removing 2 screws to remove heater controls & then reach up inside the panel. You may even find the bulb is working, but just fallen out the green lense.

Here's a fuzzy photo of what the lense looks like when snapped away from it's mountings. Dont try to pry the lense off as the whole fitting is plastic-welded to the back of the panel so cannot readily be replaced.

It does illuminate the rear controls when the sidelights are on.. I can be accessed from the back of the panel if you pull it aeay from under the window, reach down & twist the T5 bulb holder from the back of the plastic housing for the lamp... No need to remove the green lens!

Word of warning about the contacts in the bulb holder; they can be a little flimsy.. Make sure they don't get crushed if you replace the bulb.. If they short it could blow fuses knocking out dash lights, fogs, or tail lights??!!
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
