Bongo Fury

Another question - we will get an alarm fitted eventually, but for now funds are low after the bongo purchase! What's the best cheaper security alternative? A steering wheel lock? Or wheel clamp? (where do you get those and how much?)

The Bongo will be parked in our drive, but we're on a main road in a bit of an 'edgy' part of town and so I think we should do something!

Cheapest is a hidden switch, one that cuts the supply to the lights and the other that cuts the starter motror curcuit, so if they hot wire it the starter wont turn, if they are clever and get it running then the lights still wont work.
Next best is a valve in the fuel line as it will start but cut out after a few mins and not restart unless they find the valve.
Remember they want to be in and out quickly

I bought a steering wheel lock from halfords as a stop gap! But i want to do the things mentioned as well, don't know where to start though!

Could get some cheap switches from work and just switch the live supply to the alt and lights And hide it somewhere

If it's a petrol pull the king lead off of the distributor and coil, diesel then disconnect the battery, a cat 2 immobilizer can be supplied n fitted for around £120, steering wheel locks are good and can be had at a good price off of e-bay, also you can add a dummy alarm led to the dash and get some clifford / cobra stickers off of e-bay to give the image of a protected vehicle.

cat 2 alarm might be a good shout for peace of mind, and hopefully bring down insurance. Maybe.

Or do as the Ossie's do and put a bloody big snake on the dashboard

Thanks everyone, and for pointing me at the fact sheet (it's a 2.5 diesel btw). I shall have a look on eBay - I've got a bit of time on my hands as I had a tooth extracted today so am resting up and feeling a bit sorry for myself Knowing we'll have our Bongo in 3 days is helping to cheer me up though!!

£120 for a cat2!! shop around you'll get em for around the £90 mark

Pricey (there are cheaper ones) but very solid. Same as you, parked in drive with no Cat alarm (yet), but one of these looks seriously off-putting! Much easier to deal with than hidden switches etc.

Best anti theft device in the business and only costs a tenner. No power no theft. Hard to spot in the daylight never mind the dark. I used these on the Landrovers I owned with much success.!

Fitted a switch on the fuel solenoid earlier. Hidden out of the way, works a treat!
