Brands of anti freeze?
I bought some replacement anti freeze from wilkinsons today blue stuff was cheap 2.99 1 litre but reluctant to use it what brands are trusted and will protect the cooling system from corrosion the best advise Gurus ?
Re: Brands of anti freeze?
Mine has red in but I don't know what make. Own brand stuff is probably fine but more important is what spec and is it compatible with what is in there now.
/ the cooling system itself

I would go red if you can, ment to cope with heat better and boil at a lower temp.

yeh! Five year Car Plan Red was the stuff that Ady (Northern Bongolow) put into my Bongo. The only problem with the stuff is that with the red it is a tad harder to read the coolant level in the Reservoir Tank than it is with Blue or Green stuff.

Re: Brands of anti freeze?
as far as im aware the carplan p red is the right o,a,t mix and it has a higher boiling point than the standard blues and greens that ive seen so it may buy you another milli second before it dumps when the head goes
.
it also has uv qualities that enable your bongo to glow like its had reddybrek for breakfast, so that leaks can sometimesbe spotted with a uv torch.

Re: Brands of anti freeze?
Car Plan Premium Red is the closest to Japanese stock coolant in the UK .... Comma Xtream Red is also a good 'un
The Blue and Green coloured tend to be of the G11 type of coolant which contains Borates and Silicates.... Bongo's are filled in Japan with non silicate no borates and phosphated coolants also known as G12+ coolants in the EU.....of any colour you wish. Not helpful for us Brits who have a colour choice and look at colour as important rather than the chemistry
Car Plan also now do a G2++ coolant which is a higher spec and this type is used these days as a "fit n forget" from the factories inc Mazda with 11 yr life...
I still favour incorrect coolant as the main reason for cooling system issues in the UK.... mixing G11 & G12 (not G12+ like Car Plan Red) leads to gelling and sludge..
