Starting Problems (V 6 )

Post by windywatson » Thu Feb 23, 2012 8:53 pm

My V6 petrol Van has started to miss fire on start up and this then improves once engine starts to warm. This is worst on damp mornings. My suspision is the usual culprit of damp ingrees into distributor or HT leads breaking down. The van is 10 years old and I suspect it is still on origanal leads. As my buget is tight, can any one tell me if they have used the the cheeper HT leads available & are they ok? A lot of differrance in price at £50 from E-Bay than the mazda originals. Is it worth the saving?

I had similar problems with my V6 a couple of years ago. The cause of mine was the distibutor cap. This has a carbon finger in the middle of the cap which wears away with use. After twelve years of use, so little of it was left and the gap so wide, the spark could only jump in the best of conditions. That was on a dry day or after the Bongo had been running long enough to dry out all damp.

A new dizzy cap and a set of spark plugs cured all.
