Hey guys ,think ive almost got the hang of bleeding but not sure if we are there 100% yet.


but**should there be air glugs coming up the big pipe at the bottom of the expantion tank even after 1 hour of bleeding?

If so should we carry on untill the bubbles that go up into the expantion tank stop? I fear maybe we are not doing it for long enough.Iam not sure how long your ment to bleed for.

Iam using the seesaw method,allowing the stat to open at about 86 oc ,bottom hose geting really hot,heaters hot .he foamy bubbles that you 1st get in funnel clears and only a few slight bubbles coming into funnel,and the water is clear as a bell.(poss from water pump by the looks of the advise on vids).

if the bottom hose is hot, and i mean you can only hold on to the rubber hose for about 10 seconds, (with workers hands). and the front and rear heaters are up to full temp then its bled.
if you still have tiny tiny bubbles occasionally then thats just maybe bubbles (cavitation) from the waterpump. but if the bubbles are more than that you either have a leak. the waterpump may have gone (these can be very hard to see leaking). or its the big one.
usual time even in cold weather is approx 40 mins to an hour start to finish.

if i was facing a large bill for a head i would first try a waterpump (£40). several bongoers on here have spent over a year trying to find a leak that was elusive only to find it was the pump. do a search on here for a good picture (steve) widdowson2008 put up showing where the waterpump leaks.

do another leak/pressure test, and leave it a while, make sure its holding the pressure.

I left it at inlaws to cool and willl have another look 2mrw..(in the morning)..

bubbles in funel were next to nothing but there were larger bubbles coming upto expantion tank when you raise and lower funnel,But i didnt fill the expantion tank to the top as seen in the vids,bled it half full level not sure if that makes a difference or not...

its so easy to think the worst, i do it myself, so i went round to peoples bongos who were local to me just to see for myself.
they thought that the head had gone etc, but it wasnt always the case, so take a few days if you can and have another go.

I maybe totally wrong..?
But another tricky place to see an obvious leak, is the radiator... With my leak.. the leaked coolant came out the radiator, hit the front cross-member & dropped to the ground. Most noticeably 10 minutes after the engine was running...!

That Bergen kit is the one I have. Works a treat. I used it with a 2.5HP compressor with a 24litre receiver, starting about 100psi.

Off to garage this week,fed up with it
