thanks in advance

Re: kph to mph
all you need is a face plate
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-F ... 4843a23cf8
the trip and overall milage will remain in km
or the fancy lighted ones

Re: kph to mph
If your speedo is displaying Km/h and does not have a speedo chip to bring the reading down to the MPH equivalent then it cannot have been properly SVA'd and is likely to fail the MOT.
If it has an MPH sticker over the original Km/h lettering, then it will have a speedo chip fitted.

Re: kph to mph
For use in the UK, the speedo must display the speed in MPH. There are 3 ways to do this:
1. Change the dial face to one which is calibrated in MPH. This is what most of the big importers like Imperial do. There will be MPH markings printed at the bottom. The odometer will still be in Km.
2. Fit a conversion chip which lowers the reading such the the old Km/h markings now equate to MPH. There wil be a MPH sticker at the bottom. The odometer will now be in miles, but unless it has been reset will be reading too high.
3. Replace the speedo unit with one from a Mazda 323 or 626 which will GA5R marked on the bottom of the dial. The odometer will now be in miles, but will need to be reset to show the correct mileage.
Hopefully that will make sense

Re: kph to mph
if your speed is showing as mph but the distance (odeometer) is in kms them you have a face plate
If you show mph and distance is in miles then you probably have a chipped speedo except if it has ga5r on the speedo then its a 626 speedo with is a direct replacement
if every thing is still in kph then it needs changing

Re: kph to mph
Be aware that with some cheaper faces you may run into mot problems,(likw we do every time lol!) if the face you have doesnt have Kms written under or around the odometer, the the mot station will mark down on your mot as miles not Kms, as they aren't allowed to if there is only the MPH marking at the bottom. Turns out thats the law, we've had this with numerous customer cars who have faces fitted and the 2 mot stations we use both refused and called in VOSA who backed them and said the same, even tho we took down original and aftermarket faces to explain. So just a warning to make sure you get a face with kms written under the odometer section or your cars gonna clock super miles!!

gets compicated , doesnt it ! and even more complicated with more answers ! my bongo only had kph the speedo and odometer, and passed 2 mots , then i just changed the speedo face plate with a mph face plate , and passed an mot in november, so now the speedo shows mph , and the odometer shows kph, but i suppose if the mot garage hasnt come across this situation before , they may not notice, would be really easy if someone brought out a sticker that goes just below the kph speedo face, with the mph amounts, and written by the odometer it says "odometer in kph"
Re: kph to mph
The other issue, which I had, is that the other option is to add a MPH dial sticker face onto the original KPH one. Your speedo now shows MPH and the odo reads KM.
The problem I had was that the sticker readings didn't light up at night, so in the dark I couldn't tell what speed I was doing.
GA5R fitted now, and miles reset to the miles equivalent at the time of fitting.

Re: kph to mph
Although I have a MPH face plate the odometer reads in kilometres ..
On all my MOTs the Km reading is printed on them as miles ... when i mentioned it to a tester he said, they put down what the odometer reading was. it not up to them to get a calculator out to convert from Kms to miles ..!!

Re: kph to mph
MOT test will record the number displaying on odometer & it's up to you to check they record it as miles or Km. Just mention it to them at the time & they'll put the correct one (at least that has been my experience so far).
Re: kph to mph
I just put a post-it on the dash saying 'Odo in Km/h' with no problems.

thanks, kind of understand - how would you get it reset (point 2). thanksSimon Jones wrote:For use in the UK, the speedo must display the speed in MPH. There are 3 ways to do this:

Re: kph to mph
Carefully reset the wheels inside the odometer. Can be done using a small screwdriver to prise them apart so they can spin freely. I tried that but it felt like something was going to snap so I used an electric drill to whizz it to the correct value. Not sure how easy it is to wind backwards, but I replaced the whole speedo with the GA5R version that is already in miles and wound it forward to match the one I was removing. Took photos of both units side by side as proof that I have not tried to fiddle the recorded mileage.

i found a ga5r speedo that when i fitted it and converted the mileage it was only 25miles out from the original kms.
lucky or what
