Why would you want a brighter beam on your fog lights? How often do you drive in fog? We only see it half a dozen times over here and even then it's very rarely thick enough not to be able to see :?

I suppose you could fit a two way switch so they either come on with the main beam or as fogs on the rare occasions of the pea souper...?

now thats a good idea!! thank you...

..would i need a relay for that? at the moment cant quite think how to wire it up...

we find that fogs help spred out beam to the ground and sides of the road...so would be a benifit, would make it easier thank tuning off fog lights on switch every time

:-k :-k Theoretically you would need an up on, down on, centre off switch so you can isolate & turn em off completely if need be?

Wired to come on with the main beam when switched up & stay on with the dipped if switched down...? :-k

Are these factory Mazda fogs...???

ahh i see ,

yep got a set of mazda ones on there with a seperate switch on the dash, again a mazda push to make switch.

but spose could wire from main head light to fogs so they come on at the same time.... would that melt any wires??
ie the live to fogs remove and take feed from headlight to run head lights and fogs?

I'm thinking the use if a suitably rated 5 pin relay could switch the use from your standard set up... Keeping your standard set up.. But here is the cunning bit..! When the fogs are turned off they can come on with the main beam from a trigger from the main beam loom in the steering column...?!!

Give me a chance to think about this... I have wired spots into mine using a Mazda switch as an isolator... But i have factory fogs too, as standard..

isolator switch for the spots.. (centre) lit green when on with main beam..

Front fog (centre) Rear to the right... (Don't worry about the one on the left!!) Oh, OK its for extra reverse lamp & interior lighting..!

Lets go easy on this, i wouldn't want you to fry anything...! #-o

a cunning plan is in the making!..me too ..cant quite work it out .

prob best if the ycan come on with main beam and also come on (with switch) when actually fog....(most of the time we go to landsend!)

I'm currently looking into this for you, it should be possible...?! :D

A set up like this..? So the fogs work independently coming on with the side lights... Or just on with main beam, going out on the dip.. Plus (bearing in mind MOT time.) they can be isolated so you just have your main beam!?

Chipvan, i take it you have a volt meter & can solder..? 8) I'll get back later with some sort of idea for a wiring diagram... [-o< Something cunning with a couple of relays.. :-k

cool thanks...

yep ok with solder and meter..

**thought come on with main beam by its self all the time+

switch on with dip/sidelights as and when needed when its foggy(as it is now)

so really if i can carry on and use switch to turn on fogs when not on main beam, then have them come on with main beam without using a switch(all the time) that would be really good!!

Could you not simply take a trigger line from the main beam line, via a new isolator switch on the dash, then via a diode to the existing foglight relay - and leave the existing trigger line to the fog relay (from sidelights?) in circuit?

That way, the fogs would work as Mazda intended, until you flick the isolator switch 'ON', and they will also come on with main beams.

The diode would prevent the main beams from coming on when you switch the fogs on normally.
