Certainly on older 95/96 Bongos, the only fuel warning light is the array on the dash when the engine cuts out!!!!!

Only new shape '99 onwards have a fuel warning light.
Basically, if it has two airbags then it will have a low fuel lamp .

I was fortunate the dealer warned me about the lack of one. Daft innit

all the bells and whistles and no warning light.

OK, lift the carpet offside rear, locate the fuel sensor above the fuel tank - where there has been trouble with a poor earth connection.
Remove the entire fuel sensor assembly from the tank.
Obtain a piece of dowelling.
Plunge it down into the tank until it touches the bottom.
Remove the dowelling and visually inspect it.
You will notice a wet mark on it which indicates the depth of fuel in the tank.
No wet mark? It's EMPTY!
Oh, an automatic warning system?
Will work on it.
