newbie bongo owner ...advice please?

Post by toastedfrog~ems » Tue Jan 03, 2012 3:28 pm

Hi guys, i have M reg friendee 2.5L auto, had it for about 3 months, and love it to bits! ...altho, last night my tempture gauge rocketed and heating blew cold ! ..turned off heating and tempture returned to normal! Once home checked n refilled water tank! ...again this morning heating blasting ...temp rised, returned normal when heating was turned off! ..checked water, slight loss!
Been to local garage and explained situtaion, they said its possibly a leak on a hose for the heating system, to keep it topped up and not use the heating, basically keep an eye on it!
Does this sound like it could be the problem? ...i havent noticed my fans kickin in if think about it! ...if anyone thinks they can point me in the right direction ..id be greatful :)

Sounds to me like you've got a serious problem with air in the cooling system - which could have entered by several routes. You need to get it sorted by someone who knows the ins & outs of Bongos otherwise you'll be needing a new cylinder head.

DON't drive it untill you get it to a garage that knows Bongos......£1500/2000 is the going rate for not heeding this warning.

If you can't get it picked up and you fancy a bit of DIY to replenish the coolant in the recommended manner (search for the very helpful Youtube videos and on this forum for advice on bleeding and replacing coolant), you may be able to get away with bleeding it (ensuring minimal trapped air) and driving to a very local, Bongo friendly garage.

It'll depend on how fast the coolant is leaking as to how far you can go safely. You don't want to run it dry or t have air trapped in the system for long at all.

Hi guys, ive updated my location! Bare with me im new to all this, what more info do you need ?
...im really worried now ! ..i felt reassured by the garage tht it was minor.
If someone could point me to somewhere bongo friendly that would be appreiated! ...they seemed more concerned abt having to remove dashboard to find leak to be fair!
Im now guna look up the youtube vid's so ive got an idea of what im talkin abt, not playin the girl card lol ..but garages are less friendly if ur a girl with an unknown car!

In fairness i bought 'steady eddie' cheapish and was kinda expecting something like this, its only happened the twice, n no other problems except with battery to begin with (still got orginal japanese battery on, is this normal ..rac man was disgusted lol) ..ive done about 4000 miles so far with no probs wotsoeva !

As of now steady eddie is off road! Until ive found the leak! ..thanks guys :)

Sounds like they thought you may have had a leak in the front heater matrix aria..? Or an airlock! Part 6110 http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html
or the pipes leading into it. Think of it acting like a radiator in yer room....! Your vehicle has (or should) have another one in the back too..
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Hi, I also have M reg friendee 2.5L auto, one of the first things I did was take it to a Bongo Specialist to check the coolant system (I was aware of a leak to the coolant system).....

the problem was more than expected, split rubber hoses, rusted holes in steel pipes, :?

so replaced, water pump, several steel pipes, rubber hoses, refilled coolant etc & had a £700 hole in the wallet
but now I have peace of mind!

Garage>>> see list of Bongo garages in members area.......
