I noticed my bongo was well i thought guzzuling petrol.
So i though i would try sonething,
I run the bongo till the petrol light came on, then went to my Petrol station just round the corner.
I put 5L of petrol in just over a gallon. And drove till the light came back on see if it would give me a rough idea of how much im getting to the gallon.
The light came on at 36.4 miles.
Give take a couple not bad really.

I don't have a fuel light (no extras at all it appears
) so this sounds a dangerous practice to me. I prefer to fill until the pump cuts out, drive the miles and then fill up again from the same pump and calculate the mileage over a longer disitance. I dream of that sort of economy as in winter and only short trips around town I'm lucky to get 20mpg.

Low fuel light fitted on models after about 1999, so you'll have a good excuse now to upgrade to a newer model
The fill to the top method is the only reliable method of measuring fuel consumption. Driving style and road conditions are the biggest factors that have an effect. In my Volvo I can get an average of anywhere between 35 and 55 depending on weight of right foot. When accelerating, I can get the instantaneous figure down to 6 mpg!
