No Washer but wipers working

Post by Leah&John » Sun Dec 18, 2011 10:18 pm

No washer sound at all - front or rear but both sets of wipers are still working so it's not the fuse! Anything else I can try?

The front and rear wipers/washers are on different fuses, but yours sound to be ok. Assuming you have water in the reservoir and it's not frozen solid, my money is on both pumps having packed up. I had to replace one a few months ago as the rear one failed and it can be done with the reservoir in situ, but it's easier to unbolt it and lift it up. Word of warning, you can get replacement pumps for MX5's etc for about £10, but the front and rear ones have different connectors, so make sure you get one of each type.

I you're stuck, I can recommend someone who will have a second hand set available.

Could the tank be frozen up ? Has any other work been done up front at all ?

Thanks both - I don't think they are frozen but I do think that they have been run dry - the reservoir has screen wash now but I'm not getting any sound when trying either end - there's so little light currently it will have to wait until I'm off.
