Blinds

Sorry if it has been covered before, but my rear drivers side blind has stuck in the 'up' position. I can hear the motor whiring when I press it's switch but no movement. There was meant to be a video posted sometime ago on how to dismantle the job but if I remember right, it did not work (Photobucket)
Any help would be great

Yes, and quite firmly but it won't budge and afraid I might wreck it alltogether. The others work by hand or switch BTW

Normally with mine anything obstructing the blind, (for instance a bag at high level against the window stopping it going down?) just stops the motor...

I'm wondering if your tracking is warped, say like closing the parallel distance in some where & the drive from the motor has come adrift too??

Have you had any work done in that area, like a conversion??

I'm just guessing... I never had any mechanical problems to deal with on my blinds..

So far. I've removed the bottom panel and the corner section of the top, I can see the bottom curved part of the channel/frame. I can't see anything stuck in the track either at the sides or bottom and although I do have a conversion, the units are designed to be taken out. The track is still parrallell (by eye) and I sometimes do/have stored things on the worktop upright beneath the blind's travel area which might have forced a cog out of line.

I supose the motor is behind the upper trim panel and that looks like I will need to remove the grab handle to get a peep. At least I wll be able to re-site the switches at the same time. Thanks for the exploded view where are all these stored?

Does anyone know if I should continue as above or not? I thought I might have been able to see how the the thing works at this stage.
Is it run by an endless belt or cord (inside the grooved frame) so that it pushes the blind up or down? I could never understand how it is possible to be able to raise or lower by hand or switch without breaking something

From memory, the motor is at the bottom centre on all three blinds except the one over the door which is at the top..

The spring in the roller that helps it retract may have jammed it at the top though..? I think it is sprung at the top??

It's a pair of mini-teleflex cables, which run from the motor (Bottom centre on 3 blinds, top centre on the sliding door one) around to the attachment points at the bottom of the blind cloth.

If you can't move it by hand either, then one of the cables must have jammed somehow, or the motor / gearing has jammed. I guess the best bet is to get a replacement blind & frame complete with motor from a breaker.

To remove the top trim panel you do need to remove the grab handle.



You can just see the motor on the front offside blind in this photo, it's behind the bracket with the barcode sticker on it.

It's been some time . . . . After removing the rest of the trim etc the complete blind frame came away easily. Four tiny screws holding a clamping plate allowed the motor housing to come free and then I was then able to move the blind by hand.
Out of the side of the motor was a bevel gear/pinion which drives a tiny plastic/nylon rack back and forth. This gear was very corroded and there was debris in the track. A spritz of WD and a sharp skewer cleaned up the pinion and I then wiped out the track and reconnected the cable and it worked Just a matter of getting the trim back now.

On a different tack, I haven't decided which R&R bed to buy as yet and before I put it all back, I was wondering is it possible/legal? to completeley remove the seat belts and reuse them attached to the bed for when it is used as a seat?

On our conversion, with R&R bed/seat, the nearside belt remains in its normal position, the offside belt top mount is repositioned on the support for the conversion a square section 1" tube floor to ceiling, the winder is mounted on the R&R frame, the clips for both then pop up thru a hole on the R&R bed top surface in the middle of the seat and are bolted to the centre bar of the R&R frame.
