Changing rear aircon matrix

Post by steveyd » Mon Oct 03, 2011 11:21 am

Hi All,

I have a replacement rear aircon matrix to fit as the old one has a leak- In order to fit it I have to undo the aircon pipes but I'm a bit worried about checking the system for remaining pressure. The aircon doesnt work as the level is too low (despite a refill 2 months ago :( ) and when I press the pintle down in the refill point (the one marked "H") I get very little gas coming out - is it safe to undo the matrix connections? I would have thought so but just wanted to check if anyone had done this themselves.

Next time around I'll use a decent garage that does a pressure check before a refill!

cheers,

Steve

If you get no gas or liquid from the valve, then it should be safe. However, take suitable precautions (goggles etc) when you undo the 2 bolts on the joint under the matrix as you are likely to get residual fluid escaping. Also, I'd recommend you get new o-ring seals as the old ones will be well past their prime.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I was worrying about the seals as they seem pretty hard to find - did you go along in person to match up the seals (can you remember what size/dimensions at all?)?

I'm in no hurry so will probably get the old one off this weekend and fish out the old seal and get the dims off that.

cheers,

Steve

I'll measure them when I get a chance. They are two different sizes & you can't just use any bog standard o-rings as they have to be able to withstand 200 psi.
