As the summer has cooled off and autumn approaches, I've noticed a real drop off in battery performance. The Bongo only usually gets driven on a weekend and it sits all week in the garage. It's gotten so I've had to cross my fingers and invoke the gods of electrickery before turning the key.
Anyway, got a new battery, it's a Halfords HCB072 which suits early Land Rover Discoveries (as mentioned in one of the fact sheets) and is dimensionally identical to the Mazda original. Care should be taken here as later Discos seem to have a bigger battery that won't fit in the battery tray.
Problem is that nothing is ever dead easy. The positive and negative are on different ends of the battery to the original and a certain amount of pushing and pulling was needed to get the thing hooked up especially as the positive connector has a load of fuses mounted on it. It isn't my finest automotive hour and while the connectors are firmly attached, it's not as neat as it was.
Is there some sort of extension kit available and has anyone else had this problem?
New battery is great btw - well pleased to get things sorted before the cold weather.

Most batteries are available with the terminals "reversed" also with different terminal types, the trouble with Halfords is they try to remove "options" to save customers getting confused as to what they need!

Re: New Battery for V6
Why anyone ever buys anything from Halfrauds I will never know. Go to a motor factor and get better quality for half the price. I'd take it back and say it doesn't fit and then go and buy one from a motor factor
