Bongo Fury

Hi I want to(I have) fitted 2 JL AUDIO 12inch subwoofers into the back of the bongo. I have a 2 channel bridgeable amp,1 specific sub pre-out from stereo. Does anyone know the best way to wire these up?

i have this fli 2 x 12inch pack in the back of mine

and removeable when i want to

get a 30 - 60 amp wiring kit - but just earth off the rear door catch underneath the trim

are the subs to be located in a box ? if so attatch the amp to it

power straight from the battery - switch from your head unit ( normally acc wire or electric aerial ) and the rca sub out to the sub ( left and right )

get yourself a big ass connector ( like a flymo one ) and have the 3 wires joined there before the amp - so you can remove the sub box if needed to

i had a 12 inch fli at the rear and it balanced the bass out ok but just not enough

ok this is just part of my major iceing of my bongo.

the sub is removeable amp and all.


if your after advise on setting it up then i can help with that.

your need to run the rca cable from the the head unit down the amp as well as power and a remote lead in order to turn the amp on.

the best thing to do is run the rca audio lead down one side of the bongo and the power leads down the other, this way you should not get any feed back throught the speakers.

if you can i would say its best to fit the amp to the sub box this will make it easy to take out if you need to.

i have got both my power cables and rca audio cable running down the drivers side of the bongo, i dont any problems with feedback so you might be lucky too.
you can pick up a good earth on the metal work behide the rear right panel.

i used quick connectors to make life easier when disconecting the system.

you normall get a single rcd out on the head unit and two inputs on the amp what you can do is split the signal when you get to the amp at the back of the van.

onto the subs themself.
depending on the subs and the amp output etc will make a difference on how you set it up.

what is the spec on the amp and the subs.
watts in rms of the amp and the subs?
ohm of the subs and amp?

Hi thanks, I have mounted the amp behind drivers seat, took power from battery(with fuse),earth from seat mounting, amp switch from head unit, head unit had 1 specific sub pre out. Plugged rca into this and into one channel on the amp and took the speaker output to both subs connected in parallel(mounted in box). I did try and split the signal to use both channels but did not seem to work, i did split it at the head unit end though. Not sure of the amp spec as it was given to me it does say Pro sound 300 watt 2 channel amp.
At the moment it does give good bass but not sure if i have done it right will add some pics when it is light.

ok the best thing to do is wire the subs in parallel which you have done right this keeps you at the 4ohm load on the amp.
worth bridging the amp if you have this option.

Have now bridged the amp and all is working good, need to uprate everything else now though.

NO NOT ME . I'm just a driving instructor with a little bit of knowledge about a lot of things that are not important .

I'm enjoying this thread! I remember (years ago) after spending an entire wet, dreary sunday stripping out the bongo to fit a sound system "had i gone too far on an MPV"? Plenty of people looked surprised to see (or hear) that it was a bongo BOOM BOOM BOOMING down the road!

A few odd piccies of my set-up (i'm fluffed if i can remember how i wired/set that lot up though)

Two channel (bridged) amp at the rear of the drivers seat driving my single sub, there's a 4 channel amp driving four mid range 3 ways via a dedicated crossover network, 4 "tune up" tweeters are driven by the head unit directly....And there is a line out ready for another pair of speakers for if/when i decide to fit more...At the moment i have 8 speakers and 1 sub... Set up for a quality sound rather than just mere power, getting the balance just right can take months...Tweaking a knob here, adjusting a level there











And the objects in the rear cupboard get an earbashing too!









A bit messy when installing...

You can never go too far with sound systems, that looks good. Trouble is I have started now, need to upgrade speakers that leads to adding another amp, which leads to more speakers. Stop me before i spend money i dont have.
