hello folks,

unfortunately my drivers side door was flung open by a gust of wind today

now the front of the door catches on the wing.

it seems the wing needs to go in a bit or maybe the door needs to go back a bit ?

i've tried pushing the wing in a bit which helps a bit but it still fouls.

i don't want to push the wing too hard - for fear of creasing it.

i've read a post elsewhere and someone got a local dealer to sort the problem but i was hoping to do mine myself.

any advice ?

would removing the wing help ? is this an easy task ?

previous post mentioned there was no adjustment on hinges - is there any easy way to pull things back in line ?

Sounds as though you have bent the hinge. You will need to take it to a garage to fix it.

When this happened to me about two years ago I had a bodyshop realign the door - the bottom hinge had moved inwards. Is the gap between the front edge of the door and the rear edge of the wing the same -If so the door just needs realignment - isn`t it horrible when the door flies open and stops with a loud crack My gap was the same but the door just caught the back edge of the wing when I opened it. Lets know what happens.

The door shut may have distorted. It might pull out with a slide hammer.

it looks like the door hinge has pulled forwards and outwards.

a carefully placed lump of 3x2 usually sorts it, jam it in the door and lean on it, but take care,
just try to reverse what has moved.

You will probably find that the wing needs to be pushed back into position.The arc on the door hinges catch the wing and push it out when the door is opened with extreme force.

Managed to fix ours with a crowbar wrapped in a towel.

Yes we had this happen down in Cornwall earlier this year, I couldn't find any sign of hinge movement but the wing needed to be carefully pushed back to its normal position using a bar and some padding. The only damage as such is the paint work that still needs a bit more attention.

The noise however was quite frighting and was by far the worse part of the experience!

I have of Father Ted here when he tried to pop out a little dent..............

Some gentle persuasion pushing the wing in has helped. There's a little more clearence but its still tight. I dont want to do too much in one go in case wing creases.
