2 batteries to one

Post by twidds » Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:30 am

Now I've installed one big battery.
Is it ok to leave the other good battery on and just disconnect the negative terminal? Thought it may be handy to connect it occasionally to charge it too. And if the new battery gets dodgy it can be used to jump start.??

Why not fit an intelligent split charge relay to the other battery, then it will keep charged.
Basically you fit the relay between the batteries and when the main battery is fully charged it then charges the other one, or use it as a leisure battery and fit a willinton kit.

Yes, an intelligent thing to do but I don't really want to spend more money....yet... I would like one of those things though.
But at this moment would still like an answer to me Q.

Disconnect the positive terminal and then isolate it by covering it up and tying it safe.

The willinton kits are the best, loads of bongos have them, don't go for a cheap and nasty version on ebay the relays are rubbish.
