Not just Bongo's get trouble with hoses!

Post by munroman » Sun Sep 11, 2011 11:01 pm

Last week I was helping with a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Scottish Highlands.

Heading back, after being miles down various remote tracks, the lady driving the Transit minibus said 'it seems to be losing power'.
I looked across and the temperature gauge was at max, and the red light flashing.

Luckily, we were right at a huge layby, and pulled off and switched off the engine, there was a pool of coolant underneath.

We called the rental company, and they called the AA, amazingly, (for those who know the area we were near Drumochter Summit), the Rescue guy was there within 40 mins.

It transpired that when the fuel filter is changed, and the hoses not clipped in properly, the fuel hose rubs against the top radiator hose, and holes it.
It was the fourth Transit the mechanic had found with the same problem in a month....

Some hose tape, and water from the stream got us going again.

The Transit had done 11,500 miles.

If only everything in life was as reliable as a Bongo.......... :D
When asked about Western Civilisation, Ghandi said 'that would be a good idea'...

I'd be more concerned about fitters not connecting the hoses back properly! [-X Can you imagine simply topping up the bongo with water from a nearby stream then simply driving off?
