Got it in one!

Tonight's wee project. And tomorrow's too if I'm honest.

Base is test-fitted now, and swivels without clonking anything. Need to sort out the lock-down mechanism and the seatbelt anchor, refit the backrest and swap the covers over from my original passenger's seat.

Anyone want a passenger's seat with a small-half middle seat backrest welded on? Most comfy, and keeps the BFPS happy.

Hope the BFPS don't spot this thread!

It's in :) and it works :D

Just need to sort out the backrest cover where I un-stitched it at the bottom when I made the 'double backrest' version (above).

Thanks to Maxbob for designing something similar and posting it on youtube - just the inspiration I was looking for.

Drawings and photos available on request (for the brave!)

Cheers

Absolutely brilliant =D> =D> =D> =D>

I want one. In fact I want two - passenger and drivers side. This is particularly exciting as it could make for a very comfortable bed arrangement using the front seats, thus allowing my tailgate locker (which currently has to come out so that rearmost seats can be flattened as part of the bed) to stay in place. I know you can use the standard front seats as part of a bed anyway, but they don't make a very level looking join with the middle bench seat as standard.

How on earth to they manage to look like standard width bases and yet turn through 180 degrees without fouling the centre console etc.!?!?!

Cos it lifts & pivots towards the passy door, allowing it the space to turn  Here's the inspiration - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... wivel+seat

Ady - Unfortunately Mazda were very space efficient with the original seats, and the bum pan almost touches the carpet so with the offsetting hinge mechanism and swivel plate in there it has to be higher. 30mm higher to be precise. Not a problem for me as my usual passenger is as vertically challenged as I am!

I've locked it down using a pair of 1/4" rods as skewers which pass through 3 sections of 10mm o/d tubing. First section attached to the seat pan (to the 30mm box section added on the bottom of it), second to the original rail, third to the seat pan again. One of each of these on each side.

Now, you could just fabricate the locking mechanism, and pull out 2 rods, swivel the seat in your arms and stick the pins back in again. You would have no increase in height there. This method may be what Paul was talking about on the original thread Kirsty has linked to, not sure.

Mike - I doubt if this will work on the driver's side due to the steering wheel. If you are turning the seat anti-clockwise, then the back corner only ever intrudes into the centre console area by about 35mm - a lot less than I thought it would. Please pass on my apologies to the BFPS - mine are now redundant!

Nigel - YGM.
