Pimp my Bongo Seat!

Post by madmile » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:43 pm

I know a few bongo owners are interested in leather retrims etc. Now and again, we use one of our spare rear bench seats to convert a VW van into a 'combi' - ie a window van with some rear seats.
Our last one was for a customer who wanted a full leather retrim at the same time. Our new upholsterer wasn't happy with the shape of the bongo headrest...I know what he means, so I set about reshaping one (hadn't crossed my mind before) .
I was really pleased with the results (which to be honest were an hour with some ply / glue /foam). He then recovered in matching leather. Just a thought if anyone is going for a retrim, but you get neck support without raising the headrests, and in my eyes, a much more pleasing look?

Are the VW rails the same distance apart as Bong rails?

We have installed bongo seats/ rails / runners in VW T4's and T5's.
You need to fit the rails the same distance apart as its the seat that dictates the width - luckily, in both vehicles, the chassis rails are such that they are more or less straddled by the rail mounts, and can be fitted quite securely.
Its quite a big job, taking around 2 days just to fit the rails and pack the floor, but I think they make a really useful vehicle.

They are definitely good enough for a VW - The new motor is doing OK....just about to get a full valet due to an upcomming VW show.....my first one as a trader.

The colour is 'apache orange' its an old vauxall colour (corsa / tigra / frontera) - I had a really funny reaction a few weeks ago when I passed a rather sad looking P reg corsa in the same colour....as I passed the lads in the car realised it was the same colour and were pointing and laughing (not at me I hope) .
