Rear speaker upgrade

Post by stuc » Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:16 pm

Hi i have got a set of 6x9 speakers to fit in the rear but they will not fit in existing brackets, anyone done this or has any ideas on how to make them fit. Any help appreciated, pics would be good too.

I managed to fit a set of Kenwood 7x10's in the rear panels, but not without cutting ovals into the panels first... There wasn't enough depth even with the brackets completely removed to fit the speakers behind the panels. In my experience, Alpine used to do a really shallow 6x9 that would fit behind most panels ( i managed to fit 6 behind the doorcards on a previously owned Scorpio Cosworth) :D

I have recently had some 5x7 Hertz component speakers fitted to the rear of my JAL conversion. Bright orange cones look good in a blue bus. The tweeters were mounted in the original holes where the upper seatbelt mounts were. I have a set of Focal shallow component speakers in the front. Great speakers but expensive. I am now deciding which subwoofer to use. Probably a compact Focal 10" powered unit.

Cheers, may try and swap my 6x9 s for 5x7 s so they will fit straight in without modification. Was tempted to fit them into the rear tailgate trim.

Quality 5 x 7 speakers are becoming hard to find. The problem I am still having is finding a 5 x 7 speaker grill. None available in UK. Had some billet ones sent from the US but they are no good. I did find a company in the US with proper grills but they refuse to post abroad.

Any ideas?

Eventually got round to swapping rear speakers, I have put in the same as my front ones Fli 16.5 cm round. Just had to adjust the bracket a bit and drill some new holes. Massive improvement. I swapped them with my mate for the 6x9 s I had.
