Bongo Fury

I thought with the weather being so good i'd change my gearbox oil.
I got inspiration from one of Kirsty's old post's

With not having a pela pump (or similar) i loosened the 18~ 10mm bolts (from the sump) undoing all of them slightly,then loosened (further) half of the bolts at one end to enable the oil to start coming out~was a bit of a long job (that's why you need a pump) so had a cuppa while waiting.

When most of the oil had drained (with oil pan removed) i switched ignition on to range through the gears & got a further (probably) half a litre~that done i also cleaned filter~took old gasket off & renewed with new cork one.
Don't know whether it's in my head but it does seem smoother.

After writing an essay on it i really want to know correct way of checking oil as through the search facility theres conflicting opinion's.
Any advise appreciated ~regards Ray.

Looks nice and clean - did you get much gunge out? PM Alacrity as the best man for gearbox advice?

Thanks Mike ~yeah the magnet was really clogged up & quite sludgy in the bottom of pan~so i reckon well worth the effort.

Excellent job...that's on Tony's "To-Do" list as well....(I'll let him know nearer the time)....I'll find something else to do ...it's 4- 5 years since mine was done. I wonder if it's worth getting someone to braze a nut on the side, so I can add a drain bolt for next time the fluid needs doing???

Thanks Helen ~yeah would be a good idea to have drain plug,but then i suppose very few of us would bother taking the pan off.

Well done,what did you use to clean the filter and did you see a big difference in the filter after you cleaned it.

Eyup Mal ~the filter (to be fair) wasn't too bad at all~i had some petrol in a can so flushed it out with that,but didn't see a great difference but now know it's clean.

As for driving (difference) it drove smoothly enough before but i'm sure it now changes smoother,unless it's in me head
