I got inspiration from one of Kirsty's old post's
With not having a pela pump (or similar) i loosened the 18~ 10mm bolts (from the sump) undoing all of them slightly,then loosened (further) half of the bolts at one end to enable the oil to start coming out~was a bit of a long job (that's why you need a pump)
When most of the oil had drained (with oil pan removed) i switched ignition on to range through the gears & got a further (probably) half a litre~that done i also cleaned filter~took old gasket off & renewed with new cork one.
Don't know whether it's in my head but it does seem smoother.
After writing an essay on it i really want to know correct way of checking oil as through the search facility theres conflicting opinion's.
Any advise appreciated
