Bongo Fury

hello im a bit new to the bongo and i have just purchased one after saving for ages!!! anyway it has a danggler for a fog light how do i go about fitting a flush one with the kit?? would i be able to do it myself without messing it up?? it is easy any help would be fantastic.

Hi there some people me included convert the o/s reverse lamp into a fog lamp it's neater and saves u cutting into the bumper.put ure location on and someone local might be of assistance.

Personally, I prefer twin recessed foglights as they look very neat, don't lose you 50% of your reversing light power, and even augment reversing light illumination if you switch them on when reversing in v. dark situations. Not as quick and dirty as adapting a reversing light but:

Hi i have the converted reversing light no probs apart from less light from one bulb may put a super bright led in it.

I mark them out with a permanent marker using a little template I made in thin plastic, but as a one off mark it out with a steel rule or plastic ruler, I drill about a 4MM hole in the centre then insert a rotozip cutter and basically mill it out, like a router would following the lines and staying inside them, I always cut a little tight and then open it up slightly with a flat body file, basically a rasp to the right size.. Job done.

I think if I were ever doing one to keep then I would put a reversing lamp the other side as with blacked out windows reversing in the dark is hard work. Perhaps even make the rear cluster reversing lamps into fog lamps and put a pair of reversing lamps in rear bumper..

Your flush rear fog conversion gave me the nerve to chop away at my rear bumper too!

The plastic is easy to nibble at... And easy to trim, you can only go wrong if you chop away to much! Remember... you can't put the plastic back on, so steady as you go with that stanley knife!

One tip if anyone decides to do cutouts in their bumpers. KEEP THE SPARE PLASTIC. I crunched my rear bumper a short while after I got the Bongo and fitted rear foglights (doesn't everyone ) but was amazed to find that I could completely repair it using a hot air gun, bunched up cloths as dollies with flat bits of wood as backing supports and.........welding up the cracks using the spare plastic as the solder (melted on a tinplate and applied with a hot putty knife - you probably need someone to help as its a 3-handed job). The plastic is amazing stuff - it seems to weld together beautifully. Some 2-pack bumper filler, some wet and dry, some plastic primer, and I was able to spray and 2-pack lacquer the bumper back to as good as new.

Great stuff! Just another quick tip... Check for clearance of the bumper strengthening ribs before you mark/drill for the cutting... And you need the hole JUST big enough to squeeze the main body of the light through. If you cut the holes too big, you'll not have any material left on the bumper to screw the light surrounds onto...

I've seen some of this type of lamp protrude quite a way through the surrounds, making them not quite as flush as they can be... play around with the lights a bit to get the lens as flush with the surrounds as possible, then grub screw them in place (it'll be obvious when you have the lights laid out in front of you)

I have fitted an RDX LED lamp with flush fit surround (usually seen on Land Rovers) you can buy aftermarket ones (on Ebay) which are commonly used on KIT cars. You only need to drill 3 small holes, one for the wire and 2 for the screws so causes little damage to the bumper.

Ah very good! I'd have used something similar myself if i'd known about them before i chopped my bumper up!

Thats looks more like the sort of thing I'd be able to fit - I'm terrified of cutting my bumper. Do you have a pic of it fitted on yours? I can't quite visualise the size or where to put it
