Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
Won a very clean looking full kit on eBay from someone in next village to me. Anyway, anyone any experience of fitting this model in a petrol model please ?

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
If it is the D2 then it is a diesel version and not suitable for petrol power.

Some of the VW fraternity has gotten around this by installing a small diesel tank to power it by that would be a complete pain methinks.
Stick it back on eBay and get a Propex which you can run off a gas bottle and are a damn sight quieter.

So now before I go off on another hair brained mission ... what am I actually trying to buy or model number(s) and what components should I be checking is included in the offer please ? Any help gratefully received
( more money than sense my Dad would say if he knew )

Could you install a stationary engine fuel tank? place underneath where people fit an onboard water tank.

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
I bought a small lawnmower plastic tank off ebay which I am mounting to feed my ebaspacher as I sometimes run it on veg oil. Also this saves me cutting into the fuel system for the engine. In my book it seems a good idea to keep the two separate!!

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
Hi There,
I have one of these fitted in my bongo, and this weather it is simply the best thing since sliced bread. I time it to come on in the morning and no scraping required.
I have a seperate tank, situated where the leisure battery would sit, just a 5ltr one, this is handy if you want to run red diesel in the heater ( Not the main tank, as if you do, your asking for trouble ) because the heater isn't driving the bongo, you can use red.
They are simply brilliant, Im currently working on a fact sheet for Bongo fury which will contain pics etc as there is a place under the passenger seat which basically makes it look like it grew there. Im hoping to get the sheet written during the Christmas break, but would recommend them to anyone.

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
Hi Liz,
Good you got that sorted.
I have a propex in my V6, very good piece of kit, nice and warm and only draws 1amp. There is a potential downside though. On mine, like many others, there is only space for a 907 gas bottle. This is butane and this can freeze in colder weather. Hasn't happened yet but it is possible.
You can get petrol versions of the air heaters, they are much rarer but do exist. One thing to bear in mind though is how to tap it into the petrol system. The units have their own metered fuel pump, that wants a standard petrol feed. On the bongo it has a pressurised petrol system, with the pump inside the fuel tank. In theory then you need to install a seperte fuel take off in the petrol tank, this adds complexity.
Hope this helps.
Andy

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
Thanks Andy
Gerry said you were really knowledgeable on this so ill pick your brains in the future. I thought in the end, petrol, diesel and LPG together in one vehicle for me was a bit too much!!
Hope someone gets it - it seemed a good one.

Hi,
There are a couple of petrol air heaters going on ebay currently, likely to fetch more this time of year mind but worth keeping an eye on:

Re: Eberspacher D2 Airtronic
Liz, I had a propex heater fitted to my Bongo during its conversion. Specificaly told the converter that I wanted to be able to use a Calor Gas 4.5KG bottle so he made the cupboard a bit bigger than usual for me.
The only downside with the propex is that it uses up valuable under seat storage space. Get the outlet pipe fitted to one side rather than centraly if you have a rock'n'roll bed like mine to make the most of storage space.
