Starting (excuse the pun) with the obvious first, check the leads to & from the battery/solenoid & starter motor are nice & tight.

Had exactly the same problem...just a click when you turn the ignition key...went straight for the starter motor repiar kit recommended by Wonkanboby simple to fit and works a treat... good luck...

Have you tried jumpstarting it to rule out a faulty battery ?

Mine went wonky in the early days of ownership, needed re-winding plus new brushes.

Was quicker & cheaper to get another one.

Did mine last weekend with a kit from E-bay, under £15 delivered, with illustrated instructions. Once you see the old contacts it will be obvious if they are worn. It took me longer to get the bolts holding the starter out than it did to replace the contacts.
