Looking For my 2nd Bongo - Newport Gw.

I have finally decided that after the 3rd time of overheating this year and costing me £1,500 since January that I need to move onto my 2nd Bongo. I am a mum on my own with a limited budget and need to use the Bongo as my main car - so fuel consumption is key.
I am looking for an unconverted Bongo with split seats in the back.
What does anyone think about digging deep and paying more for a fresh import or newer shape to lower risk of rust and keep fuel costs down - or should i stick to older models?
I haven't got a garage and I have to pay for any work to be done on the vehicle.

Can't decide what to do!!!!

It all depend's on your budget, if you can afford I'd go for the newer shape but I'm biased Ian Taylor in Stoke on Trent has got some very nice Bongo's in at a very reasonable price PM YBB ( You've Been Bongoed) for contact info

Bottom line, It matters very little whether its old or new, diesel or petrol, 2 or 4 wheel drive.

The best thing to buy is one that has been carefully maintained with a fair bit of history, mileage is fairly irelevant.

Its easier to spend seven grand on a dog than 4 on a peach.

Most comfortable route would be to buy from a BF member on the For Sale section on here or stick to one of the many recommended dealers that get praised on these pages.

Do you want an AFT (pop-top) one or a tin-top (no pop-top) as tin tops are much, much cheaper in the first place and slightly cheaper to run too.....

If your looking for split rear seats, you need to be looking at pre facelift 97 ones for Bongo's a little later on Fredas but no 3/99 onwards new shapes have split seats.

Indeed, and the earlier (diesel) ones are a simpler maintenance proposition (I'm thinking of the horror stories about the cost of fly by wire diesel pumps going wrong), much as I love the idea of a late model one

Despite that - valid point all the same. I'm pretty certain the "collective" opinion was that split rear seats were abandoned in 1999. . . . . . .

Good find that Cabte, might be worth a look if its within budget as these new shapes in 'split seat mode' are really rare I did find Budget Bongo's expensive when i was looking for our V6 tho

thanks for all the advice guys.
I've now put a deposit on a 1996 white and purple recent import. it;s from a garage in Doncaster and the guy is going to MOT it underseal and deliver it for £4995 ! and it's got split seats.
Even though I've put a deposit on it a bongo naut in Doncaster is going to have a look at it and let me know if it's what the guy said!!

One thing you can do as well, I have been with the RAC for loads of years now lol, and recently was offered by them a warranty on my 96 P reg flat top which I have had for over 7 years, it cost £75.00 and allows 3 claims per year with each up £500.00, I know there are others like it but certainly worth thinking about and would not be a great strain on the budget, in fact could save a packet.
