Full Service Inc cam belt and tensioners V6

Post by flossie » Mon Sep 06, 2010 3:07 pm

I'm quoted from Algys from 350 + VAT for this - I will check if this includes the coolant flush through and replacement. Does this sound about right ? It will be the first service on import.

I just paid £180 for a full service, inc coolant flush and refill.

Also as it had just had a new head 400 miles earlier, it included a thourough check of that work.

The belt was done with the head work, so I dont know how much it was individually, but your quote sounds dear to me.

I think it depends on the engine type diesel or V6, V6 is much more expensive as its a sod to get to apparently.

You do need to specify V6 in the title if you don' want to get odd recommendations!

Doesn'T sound too bad for a V6.

Cam belt and tensioners alone cost about that I belive for a V6...are you sure you have it right.
Just a cam belt will probably be fine and inspect the tensioners.....worth doing cam seals though whilst in there.

And whats a Service ?? can mean anything from a oil change to a total check over.....Personally all I have done for the past 20 years is regular oil and filter and then see what a MOT throws up....not a lot as a rule...never had a problem.....

And again a coolant flush ? whats that ??? drain out whatever comes out via the radiator drain and perhaps a hose in the rad neck......that won't acheive much and will leave loads of old coolant in which may well be topped up with a incompatable coolant...(trouble down the line)
A proper flush takes 2/3 hours and involves dissconnecting the bottom hose and rear heater...then flushing...also worth running the Bongo with a chemical flush in for a good few miles the day before.....

Expect to pay £150 for a proper coolant flush/change.

Hi,
I thought that the dealer was doing this for you as part of the deal.

Quote..............I'm paying 6700 on the road with new cambelt and 6 months tax for 2.5 v6 petrol unconverted but that's imported via Algy s - I figured I'm not in a rush as it's end of season so would rather get the better deal. It's a grade 4 of 5 with 5 being as brand new. Hope this helps oh and 53k miles ..,

I asked at Bellhill Garage last week (they advertise on here) and they quoted around £1,200. That is because there are three tensioners on the V6, one cheap one, and two that are only available from Mazda in Japan. They are currently £287 +vat EACH.. Thats not to say they definitely need doing but until you strip it down and look for play, there is no way of telling...
I doubt Algys will be fitting those somehow.

My car came via Algy through its previous owner who only had it a month (and their garage Hallen Imports) and I have mixed views about them. Sure, they serviced it, but all the electrical conversion work has been completed with Scotchloc connectors. Cheap I grant you, but not a professional way to do the work and it does make me wonder about the rest.

Just my views..

Agree, first time I have been there. Needed suspension looking at. Fitted 2 rear springs and very pleased with the result. I will probably do my own Cambelt, but if I change my mind, I might go there. I have no doubt they would only change them if needed. I suspect others might have a low initial price and then give you a 'surprise' when they tell you the expensive ones need doing by which time your car is in bits and soon to be followed by your bank balance...

I think you will find the coolant needs to be dropped to do the belt on the v6 :D

Thanks all - I'll ask some more questions then - it does prices from on the price list though! Rita - Algys aren't a dealer they are an importer so I already own the vehicle in full since before it left Japan. Hallen get it through the SVA but I think I might wend my way to Plymouth to see someone with an excellent reputation - only to see his Bongo pickup of course :^o
