Auto gearbox
I have a 1995 2.5 diesel 4x4 Bongo with a dodgy auto gearbox. I have seen a auto gearbox from from a 1997 Bongo on sale would this fit my 1995 Bongo.

Re: Auto gearbox
From '95 to '99, pretty much everything is compatible.
If the price is right you should buy it with confidence.

Re: Auto gearbox
Hmm conflicting advice which is what I'm also receiving at the moment..
I have a '97 bongo friendee 2.5 diesel 4WD on an R plate with auto gearbox failure and managed to find a box from a '95 2.5 4WD which I was told would fit (in fact was told anything pre-facelift in '99 would go in)...however when the garage came to fit it they needed to make a modification to the ECU connectors and I think the torque convertor need switching too. In addition they changed over the sensors and I think had to swap a couple of other things aswell.
The box eventually went in but still nothing there.....ie. no drive when selected!!!!
So far have clocked up about £360 of labour plus the cost of a second hand box...quite an expensive lesson!
But the issue I have is that a recommended Bongo gearbox specialist has told me that only a 97/98 box will fit (due to several changes during that period) but others (again recommended Bongo garages) have advised that with some mods any pre'99 diesel 4WD autobox will fit!!
Therefore I'm in serious need of some accurate and friendee (sic) advice pleassssssse??!
Our family is missing out on some serious summer Bongo action!

Re: Auto gearbox
the old shape boxes can be made to fit a newer shape vehicle with some jiggery pokery, iirc it involves cutting off some lugs so the gear selector can fit.
