Glowing Head light

Post by dangaran » Wed Mar 31, 2010 2:15 pm

Used my head lights for the first time this morning and found that the drivers side headlight was more like a orange colour than
white.

i have not seen this happen to a head light in all my driving years,
any ideas what it could be?
hopefully just a new bulb will sort it...

also does any one know the bulb type used?

Thanks!!

H4 bulbs, but it might be worth checking the wiring connections (especially the earth wire),

There are lots of reports of a yellow film being applied to the headlight lens in Japan which needs cleaning off. Try a search for Yellow Film

Give the connector block on the bulb a little jiggle you'll probably find it brightens up instantly.

My drivers side did that. Melted connector block now replaced & all is shiney bright again.

My near side headlight did that last week, it was just a bad earth. I couldn't trace back to where original earth wire went so I just cut into it at the bulb holder and ran a new earth wire to a nearby bolt.

That fixed it,
just a quick wiggle of the connector on the back of the headlight
and all was bright!

Thanks again!

Good stuff.

Probably a bad earth there somewhere causing the connecter block to melt though, eventually its going to melt the base of the bulb. Get it checked out.

Something for your Round Tuit list.
