Post by Harry » Mon Mar 15, 2010 9:05 pm

Flagging this up now http://www.steamgathering.org.uk/ seeing as we had such a great time last year.

Hopefully we can return to Allithwaite playing fields (Chris & Jo...Pixie & The Moon) are negotiating.

Have a look at the website link above and can somone post up a link to the meet videos/photos from last year.

Expressions of intrest appreciated.

No bookings yet please.

Me to even though I never got around to seeing the puffers last year. More intresting things were going on at the campsite with the Bongo Film division making an X rated film starting the real Mr Munkey.

If anyone would be interested there is a Cross Bay walk for charity on Saturday 24th from Arnside to Kents Bank.

Kents Bank is just down the road from the campsite and you can catch a train to Arnside from Kents Bank station.

Entry £10 per person to local charities.

Led by the Queen's Guide Cedric Robinson.

A lifetime 'must' experience.

pm me for details.

This is intresting Harry. But why the train from Kent's Bank to Arnside? I thought that the route across the sands was on the public right of way from Kent's Bank to Bolton le Sands. Will this walk be along a shorter route.

This Cross Bay walk starts out across the Bay just south of Arnside and waeves about a bit avoiding the quicksands and crossing a couple of shallow river channels at the moment (may have changed a bit in a few months. Total walk about 6 miles taking 2 - 3 hours.

The railway is a fast and convenient short cut between the start and finish. Train takes about 12 minutes.

To go by road (and have to return for vehicles) is about 15 miles each way and about 30 minutes drive (If you can find parking at Arnside).

Plenty of parking at Kents Bank or only about a 15/20 minute walk from the campsite.

We would be a definite possible for this one. We loved the Steam Gathering last year although we struggled to drag minimc away from the music organ - he was transfixed!

I'm not sure if we can make this one yet as it may coincide with our main hol.
I can highly recommend the cross bay walk to those of you who have never done it before. We did it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it :) As Harry said it's a 'lifetime must'. :)
