stiff gear change

Post by robingtr » Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:25 pm

Hi B'nauts. N reg 4wd diesel. 80K miles on clock. Getting more difficult to engage 1st and 2nd when engine running and clutch pedal fully down. Tried blipping engine revs up but no difference. Just have to keep trying & eventually does engage. Something out of adjustment or could need new clutch? PS thanks to all who replied re oil warning light, now sorted. Cheers. Rob

Where are you based, in case we can point you to a good garage. You want it sorted sooner rather than later as it'll do damage to keep forcing it . Manual gearboxs are quite rare so not much discussion / advice about them on here :( (but have a search anyway to inspect what there is - try 'manual' AND 'clutch' for example in the search box)

It could be low fluid or it could a problem with the gear selector, I know it sounds daft but remove the centre cover as if going to check oil and examine the actual gear linkage, it could be a problem there, if not have it checked, mine had a new selector fitted just before I took delivery of it and it took minutes to do. Good luck.
