Alloy wheel weight rating

Post by Cookie » Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:59 pm

I got myself a bargain set of alloy wheels from a Hyundai Coupe (£15 with very little marks), but before I head of and get the correct tyres fitted I wanted to get some advice as to whether these wheels are going to take the weight of the Bongo safely, let alone a fully loaded bongo.

I can't find any numbers on the wheels which relate to car weight and a quick google search hasn't come up trumps. Any advise greatly appreciated as to whether these wheels would be safe!!

Hi
It is doubtful that any car rated alloys will be up to the weight of a Bongo , unless it is a BIG modern car that's overloaded with luxuries, and rated for sale in America, thus being equipped to carry a few 300 lb Hawaiian "Heavies"
My Bongo has original alloys (I presume), as they have not got the original centres, as they usually disappear on the Japanese dockside...along with half the added extras inside  .......Mine are stamped 690 Kg...., but I am not sure that even that is a bit low.
Ideally, you want van -rated alloys, and I found someone specialising in those by googling
If you have an accident in your Bongo, God forbid, then an insurance assessor will pick this up, if the wheels are not van-rated, and you will get no help. Adequately- rated van alloys will have a TUV rating certificate for insurance purposes when you purchase....believe me, the cheaper insurance companies are there to TAKE your money...not pay it out...skimp on anything else you like, but not insurance
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
