Steering column

Post by gmaczbongo » Sun Jan 24, 2010 12:31 am

I have an immobiliser on the steering column, when you try to start the bongo with the column adjusted to its highest, it will not start.
You need to move the column to the lowest and start the bongo and then put it back to the top.
I have not had a chance to have a wee look at the column yet, is this just a faulty connection in the wiring/column or is it a proper immobiliser.
When I purchased the bongo in Yorkshire, it would not start after my first stop, I felt like some sort of immobiliser was engaged.
I phoned the seller who phoned the previous owner and they said you need to move the column to start it.
When I picked it up, I moved the column to its highest point and it was this that caused the pfoblem.
This worked perfectly and I have been using it ever since with no trouble.
Has anyone heard of anything like this on a bongo.

Sounds a bit iffy to me, like a dodgy connection, but I suppose it could be an extra measure that a theif would never work out, still at least they'll know now

I would never have thought to move the column to start the bongo.
I have not heard of this before.
Seems a bit dodgy to me as well.
It came from Yorkshire, would a Yorkie come up with a system like this. :?

Check this out on Passive starter kill... http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp#sk2
It is possible to rig yer motor so it won't start without the radio on..!
"If you have a pullout or detachable face head unit, your vehicle will not start without it."

It could be a clever switch? :?

Though, i'm with Kirsty & think it's a bodged connection that comes adrift when the wheel is raised..? The loom does seem to tighten against the retaining clips in the uppermost position.  :D
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

I think I just need to pull the cover off and have a look.
If it is a faulty wire, eventually it will not start at all.
