Black Sheep Brewery - anyone fancy it?

Muz Jr has started brewing his own beer so we thought "Why not go to the Black Sheep Brewery and see how it is supposed to be done!"

I'm waiting to hear back on availability, prices, age limitations etc but we were thinking of Saturday 27th or Sunday 28th February, depends what they can accommodate.

It's in Yorkshire.

HG4 4EN to be precise, in Masham near Ripon.

Anyone who fancies it let me know numbers and the ages of any minors.

It's a really good day out. You must visit the special sausage shop in Masham as well.

A must for the weirdy sausage eaters.

Also we stopped at this site for the weekend. It was a few years ago now, well Tilly was about 8 weeks old then.

A word of warning. The smell of beer being brewed on a large scale is not very nice. Years ago when I was working at Warrington New Town Development Corporation a few of us from the social club were given a tour of Burtonwood's Brewery. I wish that I had taken a face mask with me.

On the other hand the smell of whisky being distilled is rather pleasing. But that may be the Scottish blood in me speaking.

If they can't sort you out, I can recommend the Copper Dragon brewery, in Skipton.

There's the usual tour, plus the restaurant there is awesome.

I wish youd`ve posted this a week ago Paul.

Having had electric problems over xmas,and the sparky needing to get into the loft,i decided to clear the loft out.
Years ago i made a lot of home brewed beer and wine. All the bits and pieces were stored in the loft....2 x 5 gallon plastic beer barrels.Several demijohns,electric hot board to stand barrels/demijohns on,syphons,hydrometer,tubing,shrinkcaps an all the paraphinalia you need.
I took the lot to the local tip...sorry.....Muz Jr could`ve had the lot for nowt.

Masham is a fantastic place (though we might be a bit biased with Mrs Dunslair's family coming from there!). No need to worry about the smell- it's not exactly on an industrial scale. The Black Sheep Brewery is actually based in what was once the Maltings for Lightfoots/Theakstons- Mrs D remembers the smell of the malt roasting when she was a child- the whole town smelt like Ovaltine!

Maybe you could arrange a short stay over some where for us all, because all them free samples we get will have to be used up, dont want em going off, sausage shop sounds good as well, Me thinks we could all benefit from a good old get together. GUESS THAT A YES FROM ME THEN

Could be a possibility if it is on the Saturday rather than the Sunday. I have to re-arrange my coolant hose change with Mike Snr at Wheelquick when the weather is a bit warmer. The men don't fancy doing a hose change when it is cold, can't blame them.

Looks as though Saturday afternoon could be best but we don't really mind. If I can have some definites we can book to get the discount although it doesn't amount to much.

Sounds like one for us. We'll come if my second knee op, due on 22 February, gets postponed - probably will, as orthopaedics have been run ragged with snow and ice work, much of 2010 so far - and more due tomorrow/Wednesday. Will confirm as and when it's clear what's happening - going for pre-assessment, next Monday.
