help!!what`s this broken distributor part called?

Post by hogggman » Sat Dec 26, 2009 7:37 pm

hi,
i had a mishap today when changing the distributor cap and rotor.i broke this part:

the first pic shows it broken, and the second shows it with the broken part where it should be.
the info on it is as follows:

denso
sl (or si)-2892h
7804

if anyone can tell me where i can get one of these,i`d be enormously grateful.
by the way, could the broken off bit be securely glued back on til i get a replacement?it appears to hold a magnetic metal strip, but whether it`d work again if i glued it back together again.
thanks

Jamie......... looks like a "hall effect" type of ignition sensor to me and I stand to be corrected........ I take it it fits inside the distributor and the rotor fits above it slightly with the centre distributor spindle closeish to the magnet?.....

It could be that the part is not available on it's own but as part of a distributor..... I would take a punt and call Wheelquick or Bell Hill to see if they are breaking any V6 vehicles .....

I will take a trip around the interweb and see if I can locate the part......or even a cross reference......

hi mike,
you are quite correct about the sensor position.i will also keep looking, and may well give whhelquick a call in the morning on the off chance that they`ll have one.
many thanks

OOPS  how did you manage that :?: had no probs with mine, easy on off jobby, i agree it comes from under the cap but i have no idea what it does, can't see it on lush, seems only to be the whole dizzy available, be just badluck that it means i new whole distributer, ive found in he past that some really small bits means complete new part #-o #-o i hope that is not in this case a new dizzy will be priiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicey me thinks, reckon i wouhld be trying some good strong glue if that the case before splashing out
Are you sure the rotor arm was the right one jamie, i remember you saying you chose one that visually looked the same not sure i would have trusted visual in an area that has very small tolerences was it broken when changing or did it chew it up when you turned the engine over :?: :?:

I would imagine this is available on its own, we got a coil pack and module for a 2.0 one a couple of weeks ago coil pack on those are in the base of the distributor. Can't advise though until Tuesday as suppliers are shut.
