Buzzing noise coming from between battery and glove box

Post by Nev » Thu Dec 24, 2009 8:59 pm

I've just parked up after arriving at the in-laws for Xmas and the side lights wouldn't go out, flickering instead, plus angry wasp sound emanating from somewhere behind the battery or from inside coming from behind the glove box. I had a waggle at wires draped over or near battery and eventually all went dark and quiet.

Can anyone offer hints for a diagnostic? I'll go for a little spin tomorrow morning and see in daylight if there is anything obvious to the untrained eye.

2004 tinny 2.5l diesel if that helps.

Obviously, I'm concerned about 300 mile return trip and want to try to get to the bottom of this before we go.

Merry Christmas in the mean time, one and all!

I would guess a dodgy relay..?? But as far as i know any buzzing wouldn't emanate from behind the glove box.. :-k Engine management ECU gubbins & CL stuff is behind or just under there... (At least it wouldn't affect yer lights.)
I would be checking relays under the bonnet.

Do you have any aftermarket lights fitted?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Allans heard that when an under bonnet relay's buzzing, usually when the battery's a bit flat, but I guess a relay could make the noise at other times too.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
