Sliding Door won't open

Post by serge » Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:58 am

Hi all

I am a plank, was trying to open the sliding door on Sunday, I thought it had frozen, gave it a sharp pull and the handle came off in my hand, anyone know where I can get a new one and how do I replace it?

I live in Northamptonshire, does anyone know of anyone in this area who fixes these for my hard earned cash?

As a point of interest, I still cannot open the door from the inside, maybe it's still frozen, or is there something more serious that I need to look at?

Many thanks

Serge

Hi,
have you checked that the child proof lock is not activated.

I have a similar problem with mine. If I manually lock the sliding door (by pushing the knob down) while I am inside the Bongo, I cannot then unlock it manually. So, I have to climb across to the cab and get out that way  If I lock and unlock all doors using the remote control, it's fine. I took it back to Discount Trucks within the warranty, but they were unable to fix it. (its not the childlock).

How do you check the child lock if the door is closed?

You can't! You open the door from the outside first.

I found myself in this situation in a Bongo I inspected once and had to crawl into the front cab (hard work!). It was later, in my own Bongo, that I realised it was easier to open the passenger door from the rear, then operate the sliding door using the outside handle. #-o

Tried that Mike - but not so easy with a reversed middle bench :( My back wouldn't stand the twisting neither, so slightly easier to climb over. Must get the panel off the door somewhen and see if I can find out what the problem is - worries me that the rear passengers may not be able to get out in a collision or fire etc.

Hi,
Why not use the Tailgate until you get the sliding door fixed.
