Hold button

Post by portfan » Thu Dec 10, 2009 9:38 pm

Unless i'm missing something obvious (as usual) all the hold button does is drop it down a gear which i can do by moving the gear selector. So to stop me accidentley pressing it while cruising at 65, which i would imagine is noisy and expensive, i was going to disconnect it and use it as an override switch for the scavenger fan. Any thoughts? And while i,m here how do i get the heater controls out (big knob,3 sliders) so i can replace the lamps, thanks in advance :D

I think I've read (on this forum) that there is a safety feature in that the hold button won't drop the gears if the revs are too high. I haven't tested this mind you.....

I don't know why you would want to do away with it, I find the hold button quite useful when descending long and/or steep hills.

Sorry, can't help with the other stuff.

Edit - I think there's more to the hold button than just dropping down a gear - e.g. stops it continually changing gear if you are going up a hill at just around the transition point. I expect you'll get more expert opinion along soon though.

As the man says - it won't overrev the engine with accidental use and is handy for holding in a gear climbing or descending/starting off in 2nd gear/useful in mud or ice/driving in traffic around 25 mph - just stays in 3rd without hunting up and down the 'box.................

It doesnt just drop a gear, it Holds it in whichever you select.

Pulling away with H2 on in ice or snow for example could be useful.

By all means fit a manual overide for the scavenger but leave the hold as is, it'll come in handy at some point.
