Our headlights had been doing that 'one's a bit dimmer and the full beam indicator light's glowing a bit' thing - familiar to some other Bongonauts I find. I had been doing the 'jiggle a bit and it works' thing. However, while away from home on an overnight trip the jiggling ceased to do the trick and then both lights just stopped working. We were faced with an evening trip back from South London to Yorkshire with no lights and not much clue of what was wrong, thinking of calling out the recovery service etc. Thankfully my Blackberry gave me access to the internet and we were able to search the forum for possible clues. Before long we had worked out that the connector had melted! and which connector (H4) we needed to replace it with. A Halfords was located and we had enough light to drive there safely; connector was duly bought. Two unmechanical duffers then proceeded to effect the change in Halfords carpark - my partner is colour blind, always useful with electrics and, as he said, 'they didn't let me do much of this on my YTS'... But with the help of the forum we managed to do the necessary changeover and our lights were working once more. Safely home, the repairs were tidied up and the connector changed on the other light (which had been the dim one to start with) as well.
Being unmechanical we were hopelessly pleased with ourselves for managing all this - but wanted to say many thanks to the other forum users whose questions and answers got us out of this hole so quickly and economically. Thanks!
