Glow plug factsheet update

Post by JonWM » Sat Nov 21, 2009 6:13 pm

Hi,
Just finished replacing the glow plugs and used the members area fact sheet to help me.
The sheet was a massive help but I can offer some more detail if it helps.

If you have a manual gearbox you will need to remove the couplings to the gear leveronce it is exposed - it is obvious what to do here. Also need to remove the 3 bolts holding the gear lever plate to the panel as there is a hidden bolt underneath the plate holding the panel to the van (this is one of the 6-8 bolts mentioned).
To replace the plugs you'll need a 7mm short socket to remove the small nut on top of each plug which holds the 12v bus bar to the plugs. In the fact sheet it mentions removing the 4 gizmos but you only need to remove the forwardmost two which are on a single plate to get access to plug 3 (from the front). You will need a 12mm deep socket (like those used to remove spark plugs) to take out and replace the glow plugs.
A couple of tips to putting it all back together.
1. If you do drop the nuts and don't have a magnetic recovery thingy then a long artist paint brush with some blue tack in the end of the handle is a good alternative. You can use the blue tack in the next tip if required.
2. Once the plugs have been replaced and the bus bar placed back on them you can use a bit of blue tack to hold the 7mm nut in the socket before screwing it back on the plug.

Hope this helps

Email it to [email protected] to make sure it gets included, he's the only one with access to the factsheets & may not see this.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Agree with the others, good tips.

The one for using Blutac is great, obvious now you've said it. =D>
