Fitting 3 point harness instead of lapbelt to bench seat.

Has anyone successfully fitted a 3 point seat belt in replacement of the lapbelt on the middle bench seat.

I like the idea of having the 3 kids across the bench seat with all the stuff in the boot area.

I notice a company called securon sell a kit. Has anyone fittted one of these?

Hi there,

The issue is really with safety here. The original seat wasn't designed to take the stresses placed upon the backrest by a 3 point belt.

After a lot of debate and research I did get some 3 point belts fitted to my camper conversion. These are not crash tested but I figured that in a roll over I would be better off than just a lap belt.

I make sure the passengers either sit on the rearmost seat with the proper factory 3 point belt, or in the rearward facing seat as I figured that was the safest I could do in the limited choices I had.

Overall the reality is that the car wasn't designed or crash tested to give us proper 3 way belts everywhere, so anthing you do is a compromise which is a shame.

Company I used a couple of years back was Autosafe Seatbelts, they come to you.

Hope this helps but don't expect anything like this to be as good as what the maker would do at the factory.

It all depends where the kit uses as the 3rd point if it's the seat itself it will be no better than a lap belt - in fact probably worse as it will ensure the seat folds up and eats you.

I recall seeing a post a couple of days ago. Madmile had a picture of a 'naked 'seat, you could see the structure of the frame. clearly designed for the loading exerted by a lap belt in the middle. Not sure it's something I would like to compromise on
