Tempermental AFT

Post by greenbean » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:46 pm

Hello All

My Auto Free Top is a bit tempermental especially when closing. I press the cancel button in the roof space, the warning sounds, I then press the close button but nothing happens. I have to repeat this process numerous times, then when it feels like it, it decides to kick into life and close. The same happens on raising the roof as well but not quite as often.

Any advice would be greatly received

Thanks

The usual problem is the handbrake safety lock switch, but I haven't actually noticed if its possible to release the Cancel AFT and start the beeping when the handbrake isn't on to start with. I'll check myself later, unless someone can confirm the situation. If it is the handbrake switch then a jiggle and clean of the contacts is al that's normally necessary.

If not the handbrake switch, it may be worth checking the connector blocks at the back of the AFT visible from out side on the drivers side, exposed to the elements, make sure they are all making contact ok, sometimes disconnecting & reconnecting a few times cleans up the contact faces/points.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
