Bongo Fury

Hi

Weve just fitted a new cd/fm radio (Halfords) to our newly purchaced Bongo but still cant get a decent radio reception. Weve got what appears to be a standard factory fit extending arial mounted in the door/windsceen pillar. Do all you other Bongonoughts get good radio reception with the standard arial? in which case I will get another Mazda one from the club shop, or is it worth replacing it with a new pillar mount arial from my local motor spares shop which may or may not fit the existing hole? Any feed-back would be much appreciated.

Hi Tim & welcome---i also bought mine from Halfords--reception is spot on but my aeriel is positioned probably half way down the Bongo just underneath the guttering & i reckon mine is a standard factory fit!---what years your Bongo???

Hi Tim, Your description of the arial fitting, suggests you have a tintop. With the Honda owned era Rover style one piece arial that retracts down the side of the windscreen?
Different to the Freetop arial.
My tintop arial reception is as good as any other car arial.. I could be wrong but there could be a second connection to the arial coaxial somewhere on the drivers side or widow pillar..? Check to see this has not disconnected from an extension that leads to the radio...?

You don't have a European expander fitted from the possible previous Japanese radio..?

Same as jaylee, my tintop aerial works perfectly and is easily reached
from the drivers seat when you need to retract it quickly.

I live in Aylesbury and used to run a car radio shop.

Thanks for that Jaylee, ours is a tintop so I will have a look at the weekend for another connection from the arial. I still have the old japanese cassette/radio, what does a European expander look like????

Hi Tim and Angie, We had a wave expander put on our original radio, but the stations were few, so we had a new radio fitted and it is fine. I don't know if the expander was taken out when the new radio was fitted though. We had one of Ian's aerials fitted too. I'm not much help really, but I'm sure stringman would know. I hope you are still enjoying your lovely Bongo

Re-check the coax connection into the back of your head unit...if the cables were a bit tangled it could have tugged the plug from the rear of the unit a little as you pushed the stereo back into the radio aperture.

Thanks for all the replies re the arial. I had a fiddle under the dash and the co-ax plug into the socket at the base of the window pillar was loose, all working well now.

You were spot on Jaylee with the second co-ax connection so thanks again. By the way I had a look at the the old jap radio and it isnt fitted with European expander so cant help you there.
